The Summer of Beautiful Things

The Summer of Beautiful Things
by Jason Parsons, Executive Director, Keep Prince William Beautiful

For nearly four decades, the Board, staff, volunteers, and community partners of Keep Prince William Beautiful has served our communities by fostering individual responsibility and collective action to keep our communities clean, green, and beautiful. As the Summer of 2017 rapidly approaches, there are many ways you can get involved, and create beautiful places for people to do beautiful things — take a hike, go for a swim, a bike ride, fly a kite, visit the park– or any number of things you can most enjoy this summer with your family in a vibrant, clean, and green community. More than ever, Keep Prince William Beautiful is committed to beautiful things in beautiful communities.
Here’s a snapshot of what you’ll see from us this summer, and how you can get involved:
– With Novant-UVA Healthcare, KPWB has launched the Young People for Parks Program – to get kids active in Prince William County’s parks – and to teach the importance of keeping parks clean so people can exercise, recreate, and do other beautiful things.
– At the Serving our Willing Warriors (SOWW) Retreat in Haymarket, along with Dominion Power, KPWB is building a tribute park on the grounds of the retreat’s 38-acres. Prince William County is home to over 50,000 military households and we are proud to be part of this wonderful partnership to create a beautiful place for our nation’s bravest heroes.
There are many ways for you to get involved! Follow us on Facebook, visit our website, or make plans to attend an event. One of the easiest ways is to recruit friends, family, and neighbors to join with you to Adopt-A-Spot, an area of your community your group will dedicate to keep clean and host at least 9 litter pick-ups a year. Our office makes it easy for you – we supply the materials you need and help you make it happen! So far in 2017, 341 volunteers have dedicated nearly 500 hours in 183 cleanups, removing nearly 8,000 pounds of litter and recycling from Prince William County! Are you interested in adopting a spot? Contact us today at info@kpwb.org!
Our vision is for Prince William County to be the leader in demonstrating how a clean, green environment makes stronger, healthier, more prosperous communities. Join with us, and let’s create a beautiful today, and leave a beautiful tomorrow— and be sure to make time this summer to do beautiful things in Prince William County.
